As a local cabinet and furniture manufacturer, we, at Grande Wood Designs, pride ourselves with our commitment to be an environmentally friendly company. We feel that being green is an individual choice, and, if given a choice, most individuals will choose Green!
Therefore, it’s GWD’s commitment to offer our clients the latest in technology that not only preserves our natural resources, but also performs in the most efficient way possible. This requires continuous education that GWD is committed too in order to provide alternative and proper choices to our clients
• Recycling
GWD manages raw material products in the most efficient ways possible. When any waste is generated, all efforts are made to recycle products in the following manner:
• “Surplus sales” provide reusable products out of what would normally be thrown away
• Sheet goods and hardwood cut-offs are offered free to the public
• e-filing helps keep paper use down
• Any item that can be recycled is
• Hardwood scraps are cut up for kindling
• Wood Choices
GWD offers a wide range of hardwoods that come from responsible forests. Although choosing green has been associated with higher costs in the past, today’s choices give you options that are more affordable then you think.
• FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified Woods
• Plywood’s that can contribute to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credits
• Renewable materials like Bamboo and Lyptus
• Plywood and Melamine
Today’s buzz word is formaldehyde. The California Air Resource Board’s (CARB) Air Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) states that all plywood, particle board and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) must comply with Phase 1 and 2 by July 1, 2012
(See www.CARBrule.org for more information.
GWD offers plywood and melamine that not only meet the CARB Standards for 2009 but are well below suggested CARB Phase 2 standards in addition to achieving LEED Credits.
• Finishes
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) have also been a concern with Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). GWD continues to stay current with the latest in finishing technology that exceeds the mandated standards for our area. Our finishers are manufacturer certified and are updated as products change.
• Hardware
One of the most effective ways to stay green is quality. The longevity of a product is key to its efficacy. Too many things in today’s market are throw-a-ways that wind up in landfills. GWD chooses to use quality hardware (many that have lifetime guarantees) to compliment our manufacturing and designs. Our products are meant to last for generations.
• Continuing Education
GWD is a NCCA Green Certified Vendor. It is our commitment to continue our education towards a greener and more efficient way of doing business, thus producing products that continue to give our customers choices that will improve their lives and the environment they live in.
